To help celebrate the second anniversary of the Flin Flon, Creighton and Area SPCA’s animal shelter, the In Motion committee will be hosting a dog walk on Oct. 4.
Though the new SPCA building, located off the Perimetre Highway, has been running for two years, the SPCA has had a presence in the community for well over a decade.
The dog walk and anniversary party will acknowledge not only those pets that were adopted at the current building, but also those that have been adopted and rescued in other ways.
There will be a hot dog and drink sale from 12-4 p.m. with proceeds going back into the SPCA. Rescued dogs that attend the event will also receive a rescue ribbon to wear.
In Motion will hold a dog walk to encourage physical activity for adults, children, families and, of course, pets.
“We’re inviting all rescue dogs to come for a walk with their owners,” said SPCA shelter manager Carmen Ward, though the walk is not limited to rescue dogs. “Let’s celebrate the rescued.”
The group of walkers will leave from the SPCA building at 1 pm, cross the Perimeter Highway toward the BMX trails, make their way around the Kin Fit Trail and then head back to the SPCA.
Ward cautions that there may not be enough dogs to allow each participant to walk an animal. And dog walkers must be over the age of 16.
For those not interested in walking a dog, the In Motion committee encourages participation for physical activity.
Those who decide to stay at the SPCA are welcome to visit with the cats, said Ward, adding that they love to be cuddled and brushed.
Donations to the SPCA are welcomed for the anniversary party, but Ward says the organization is doing quite well in a number of areas.
They are, however, always in need of non-clumping cat litter as well as cleaning supplies.
Ward asks that any food donations being made are to be Whiskas pate cat food or dry Iams cat or dog food.
