30-plus teams paddle for Trout Festival supremacy

Perfect weather conditions greeted the annual Trout Festival Canoe Races held on Ross Lake on Saturday, July 2. This year’s Voyageur Challenge was won by Wayne Elliot’s Elite Paddlers, followed closely by the Big Island Bears.

Perfect weather conditions greeted the annual Trout Festival Canoe Races held on Ross Lake on Saturday, July 2.

This year’s Voyageur Challenge was won by Wayne Elliot’s Elite Paddlers, followed closely by the Big Island Bears. Seven teams raised over $500 for the Recycling Centre in this fundraising event.

The two-person canoeing events were very well attended and the results were as follows:

Men’s Open 7 teams

1st: Cole Grove and Dean Grove

2nd: Kevin Pedwell and Mike Manns

3rd: Brett Belfry and John Belfry

4th: Roger Gregoire and Wayne Elliot

Women’s Open  six teams

1st: Penny and Mackenzie Grove

2nd: Myrna Guymer and Jan Modler

3rd: Cyndi Pedwell and Tori Pedwell

4th: Heather Chrupalo and Debbie Davis

Mixed Open 11 teams

1st: Bob Jarvis and Mackenzie Grove

2nd: Patty Evans and John Belfry

3rd: Tori Pedwell and Mike Manns

4th: Cyndi Pedwell and Kevin Pedwell

Under 18  8 teams

1st: Alice and Owen Halder

2nd: Tori Pedwell and Ryan Pedwell

3rd: Brycen Francoeur and Carson Ledoux

4th: Brayden Abbott and Bryce Bodnarus
