Émilie Bierre’s international career continues to gain momentum despite the unfortunate flop of the horror series Teacupwhich aired on Peacock in 2024 and was canceled almost instantly. The Quebec actress will be part of the main cast of The Sticksa new drama series from Netflix that will immerse viewers in the world of hockey.
In this eight-episode production, Émilie Bierre will lend her features to Riley Sullivan. In particular, she will respond to Michelle Monaghanseen in The White Lotus And True Detectivewho will play Harper Sullivan, an English teacher and former figure skater called to take charge of a school hockey team after a tragedy that deeply shakes a small community in Minnesota.
The story will follow both the challenges on the ice and those experienced by young players outside the arena. Mourning, first loves, rivalries and family ties will be at the heart of this series in which a once admired team will try to rebuild itself. A classic teen series, indeed!
Émilie Bierre will find herself surrounded by an imposing cast. Scott Bakula And Logan Marshall Green notably join the series in the respective roles of coaches Brody Hansen and Sully, while Shai Chase, Josh MacQueen, Costa D’Angelo, Carter Shimp, Ethan Holder And Isaac Arellanes will also be part of the adventure.
The Sticks is created by Nick Naveda and produced in particular by 21 Lapsthe company of Shawn Levy behind Stranger Things And The Perfect Couple. The production of the first two episodes was entrusted to Trey Edward Shults (The Weeknd: Hurry Up Tomorrow).
Although the plot of the series is strikingly reminiscent of the 2018 tragedy — where the collision in Saskatchewan between a semi-trailer and the bus of the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team cost the lives of 16 people — Netflix strongly denies any connection with this event. The broadcast platform maintains that The Sticks is a strictly fictional work and that it is not inspired by any real story, despite the obvious similarities raised by the public and the families of the victims who are strongly opposed to this tragedy being transported to the small screen.
Netflix will drop episodes of the series sometime in 2027, but no specific launch date has been announced yet.
