Elsie Elizabeth Thurstan (Laine), long time resident of Creighton, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at the Flin Flon Personal Care Home at the age of 88 years. Elsie was born at Forrest Farm Community/Whitewood, SK, on November 28, 1915 to Charles Laine of Finland and Ali Olga Hanni of New Finland, SK. She lived at Forrest Farm, SK; Sault St. Marie, ON; Whitewood, SK; and Creighton, SK since 1950. In March 1941 she married Charles Henry Thurstan. She was employed at the Flin Flon General Hospital, Dutch Mill, Rite-A-Way Service, and Allan's Dry Cleaners. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting and baking She was a member of the St. James Anglican Church, North Star Rebekah Lodge and the Circle C. Elsie was predeceased by her parents and four brothers and is survived by her children, Carole (Lawrence) Ulrich, Doug (Bev) Thurstan, Donna Weibel, Maxine (Roger) Cross and David (Mavis) Thurstan; grandchildren Vanessa (Mark) Bowers, Melinda (Jeff) Martin, Travis (Sharon) Ulrich, Shawna Thurstan, Trevor Thurstan, Jamie (Andrew) Leamont, Rick (Jolene) Weibel, Gordon (Barb) Cross, Trent (Kathy) Cross, Kristen Thurstan and Ryan Thurstan; great grandchildren Trace Bowers, Brittany and Jocelyn Martin, Kataya and Tanner Ulrich, Jordan Casely, Tiffany Romanishen, Owen and Cameron Leamont, Kailyn Weibel, Holden Cross and Caiwyn and Parklan Cross; brothers Bert, Gilbert, Gordon and Mel; and sisters Doris, Mabel, Edana and Joyce. Funeral services were held Monday, February 2, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Peter/St. James Anglican Church, with the Reverend Clare Edwards officiating. The organist was Arlene Milton. Active pallbearers were grandsons Trevor Thurstan, Ryan Thurstan, Rick Weibel, Gordon Cross, Andrew Ledmont, and Trent Cross. Honourary pallbearers were friends and family. Ushers were Ev Pico and Faye Brecht, and the memorial register attendant was Lila Hatley. Interment will be held at a later date. Following the service, the Circle C and the North Star Rebekah Lodge served lunch at the St. Peter's/St. James Church Hall. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the St. Peter/St. James Anglican Church Building Fund, 74 Church Street, Flin Flon; Flin Flon Personal Care Home, c/o Flin Flon General Hospital Business Office, P.O. Box 340, Flin Flon; or to the North Star Rebekahs, P.O. Box 426, Flin Flon, Manitoba. Dadson Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. 687-5821 We would like to thank the staff at the Personal Care Home, the third floor of FFGH, and Creighton Home Care for all the care given to our mother/grandmother over the past years. Thank you to her friends at the Heritage Manor and for the use of their facilities for the family supper. Thank you to Dana for all your help, to Rev. Clare Edwards for her kind words, Roger Cross for the eulogy, her grandsons for being pallbearers, Arlene Milton for playing the music, the choir, to Lila Hatley for attending the register and to Ev Pico and Faye Brecht for ushering, and a special thanks to Jordan for singing a tribute to her great grandma. To the North Star Rebekah Lodge for the honour guard, family supper and the lunch, also to Circle C for the lunch, this was greatly appreciated.
