There will be a great show on the weekend of June 8 and 9, when local wonders Imrianna Jones will play at Johnny’s Social Club. The young women in this group are school teachers by day but by night they transform into a dynamic, harmonious trio who have, up to this time, played covers of new and old songs. Rumour has it that Imrianna Jones and the Temple of Groove will contain some original material as well.

Consisting of Kristen Imrie, who plays guitar accompaniment and sings in a mellow alto range, Anna Harrison who sings harmony and Kim Jones trilling the top, this trio sounds so sweet.

Imrie teaches history at Hapnot and has been singing with her family for many years. Anna Harrison teaches junior high band at both the elementary schools, and Jones teaches high school band in both Flin Flon and Creighton. They have extensive musical training, as well as busy professional and personal lives, but talent will find a way to express.

It is really fantastic that these smart, talented women are discovering their own voices and sharing them with the world. It is a loving testament to the musical cradle that is Flin Flon in this timeframe. We are all very lucky that the musical constellations have swirled together to create the entertainment we are enjoying now. The ability to perform can to some extent be learned but the ability to create comes, it seems to me, from within. It is so tremendous that this ability is taking root, being nurtured and is growing for so many in Flin Flon.

Back to the show on Friday and Saturday June 8 and 9. It will be at Johnny’s Social Club – doors open at 7 pm and music starts at 7:30 pm. Bring your own snacks – drinks will be available for purchase. Tickets will be available at The Orange Toad until Friday.

Have you heard the newest podcast? Raphael Saray (yes, the Hungarian heartthrob) has a new project called “Sewer Box Office Podcasts” which seem to be coming online weekly. The first episode features an interview with Brent Lethbridge giving a bit of a history of rock and roll in Flin Flon and some personal history of “Brent and Susan.” It’s really fascinating to listen to those reminiscences. The second episode features teachers Natalie Milligan and Noelle Drimmie discussing some of the reasons they stay in Flin Flon, and especially in the Flin Flon art scene. This all happens with Saray’s trademark humour and incredible assistance from the delightful Susan Gunn. Visit https://www.spreaker.com/user/sewerboxoffice to find them. They are really fun, plus informative, I’m not kidding!

Saray says in his introduction that his goal is to help Flin Flon take its rightful place as an arts hub (well, he does it with a bit more style than I can muster, calling up Brighton, England and all) and if the first two episodes are a guide, he is well on his way.

Look out in the next column for information on the Northern Juried Art Exhibition to be held at NorVA in conjunction with Trout Festival. The opening reception will be Thursday, June 28. The other thing to watch for (and get signed up for in advance) is Mike Spencer’s Raku Class – Saturday June 23 to build, Friday and Saturday July 6 and 7 to glaze and fire. Cost is $75 for everything so get in touch at NorVA to register.
