There’s no rest for either the wicked or Ham Sandwich. Auditions are underway for the group’s next show.

Hot on the heels of the troupe’s performance of C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe earlier this month, the group is preparing their next presentation - an adaptation of the 1963 Samuel Fuller film Shock Corridor.

The film is loosely based on the work of pioneering female journalist Nellie Bly, featuring a strident journalist who intentionally commits himself to an insane asylum in order to help solve a murder committed within its walls.

A darker performance than most previous Ham Sandwich productions, the chosen production is closer in spirit to Nineteen Eighty-Four, the stage adaptation of the famous and prescient George Orwell novel performed by the group last spring.

No roles have been opened for children in the cast, another contrast with previous shows. The Ham Sandwich production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe featured a large cast with more than half the roles filled by kids.

Characters include the main character, Johnny Barrett, his love interest Cathy, asylum inhabitants Boden, Stuart and Trent, deranged opera aficionado Pagliacci, Drs. Menkin and Fong and others.

Auditions will be held Dec. 18 at the R.H. Channing Auditorium, starting at 7 p.m.
