The 2006-07 season is expected to be a special one for the Flin Flon Bombers organization as it plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1957 Memorial Cup winning team with All-Star weekend. Bombers vice-president Lee Deary is working hard with the rest of the board to ensure it's a special occasion. One idea that should be considered is to give serious thought in having welcome signs made for both entrances to Flin Flon. The signs could either say "Welcome to Flin Flon, home of the Bombers" or "Home of the '57 Memorial Cup champion Flin Flon Bombers." In conversations I've had with people, there was a sign representing the Bombers and Bobby Clarke, but it was vandalized and eventually removed. I think it would be a great way to welcome anyone entering the community. When I first arrived here last August, I had no idea if I was in Flin Flon or Creighton because they blend. Any community you travel to, they have a sign. One thing for sure, one is needed when entering from Creighton. I realize that there is a sign welcoming people to Flin Flon, Creighton, and Denare Beach, but isn't it odd that the sign erected on Highway 10 does the job for three communities in two different provinces? I also realize that Flin Flon and Creighton is nearly a joint community, but what about Denare Beach? There is no better way to recognize this community and have the memory of that Memorial Cup win known. Most communities proud of what they are have nice signs to portray it. This community boasts talented people who I'm sure could make two. The second thing that comes into play with this idea, of course, is money. The costs for making this a reality can potentially come from fundraising. When it comes to things of importance, the people in this area step up. Isn't this worth fundraising for? Bomber Blitz As of Wednesday afternoon, the Bombers had sold 774 season tickets. With a little over a week to go before the June 30 deadline, the total steadily climbs. Bombers president Duke Rodnisky is excited with how it's going and said the goal is to hit 1,000. Last season the organization sold 867 season tickets, which also included corporate sponsors. Knowing that the on-ice product will be significantly better, and news of the Bombers signing six key players with more expected, has to make it a bit easier for fans to pay more. The organization knows it has great fans Ð because they will support their team.
