If Brittany Slugoski was surprised and humbled to accept the 2005 Queen Mermaid title earlier this year, those feelings must be amplified. Flin Flon's representative at the Miss Manitoba pageant, held last week in Winkler, brought home the title of Second Princess. "It's fantastic, two titles in one year," said Loraine Poirier, director of the Queen Mermaid pageant. "She represents our community very well. We're so proud of her." Poirier spoke with Brittany, one of 10 contestants in the provincial competition, Thursday evening and said the teen "was just glowing." The Hapnot Collegiate student received the second runner-up title. Accepting the Miss Manitoba crown was Renee Peters of Altona. Brittany was still on her way back home at press time and unavailable for comment. The part-time customer service employee at Northland Ford was crowned Queen Mermaid on July 3 at the R.H. Channing Auditorium.
