The Rotary Club of Flin Flon has played a major role in our area for 70 years. The club has deep roots here and plans to stay and benefit the communities for many years to come. The Rotary motto is "SERVICE ABOVE SELF". Paul Harris Fellowship Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary International. He started the very first Rotary Club in Chicago, Illinois on February 23, 1905. Upon the passing of Mr. Harris, an award system was set up to recognize individuals in the communities of the Rotary world. Upon the donation of $1000 plus the club could recognize Rotarians and non-Rotarians for their work in our areas. The names of the individuals are registered in R.I. headquarters in Evanston, Illinois. The donations of the $1000 plus assist the Rotary Foundation to continue its work throughout the world. Each year the local club honours two or three individuals in the manner. To date there have been 59 awards with 921,000 throughout the Rotary world. Nominations are made by the members of the club and forwarded to the Foundation committee. The committee then selects the candidates by looking at the amount of volunteer work done by the candidate in the club or at large in the community. Paul Harris was a great peace loving man. He believed that you get out of life what you put into it. The Paul Harris fellowship for outstanding service is the most respectable award a Rotarian can achieve.
