St. John's, Nfld. - The Newfoundland government has tabled legislation that would order more than 20,000 striking public service employees back to work. "This is not about 20,000 people, it's about the 520,000 people of this province," said Premier Danny Williams on Monday. "We can not allow anarchy to rule." Earlier in the day, thousands of striking public service workers braved a blizzard to protest against the back-to-work order, expected to pass this week. Union leaders in the province say their members will obey the order. Moncton - A man in New Brunswick won $30 million over the weekend Ñ the largest lottery win ever in Atlantic Canada. Trevor Hunter of Boiestown drew the only winning ticket for Friday night's Super 7 draw. Hunter, who worked at a mill in Miramichi, and his wife, who worked for the Department of Family and Community Services in Fredericton, said they had already quit their jobs. Edmonton - The Knights of Columbus in Alberta, an organization that backs the Catholic church, has decided to stop raising money through charity casinos. Casinos generate about $1 million a year for the Knights in Alberta. Without casinos, "it probably won't be in that large amount of money that was raised before," said Knight Raymond Cyre, but "everybody will be able to sleep better at night."
