Ottawa - A Victoria Cross that vanished from the Canadian War Museum about 30 years ago will be back on public display Monday. Canada's highest decoration for valour was won in the First World War by Corp. Filip Konowal. The medal mysteriously disappeared from the Ottawa museum sometime in the early 1970s. A few months ago, the medal turned up at a Canadian auction house. The RCMP investigated, but weren't able to trace its path over the last three decades. Konowal was a Ukrainian Canadian who performed feats of bravery in the battle for Hill 70 in France in 1917. While he was fighting in France, thousands of other Ukrainian Canadians back home were locked up as "enemy aliens" in internment camps. Montreal - A London-bound British Airways plane carrying 302 passengers from Phoenix, Ariz., was diverted to Montreal early Sunday after pilots noticed a burning smell in the cockpit. They found a problem with a recirculation fan in the air conditioning unit, British Airways spokesperson Honor Verrier said. Halifax - The port of Halifax was up and running again Sunday after longshoremen ended a wildcat strike launched the previous day. The illegal strike began at the south-end Halifax container terminal in the Port of Halifax. About 140 longshoremen walked out in protest against the firing of one of their members
