Edmonton - An autopsy will take place Monday on a woman's body found over the weekend in a wooded area near Edmonton. Forensic investigators have been joined by members of Project KARE, a special RCMP unit investigating the cases of 84 women who have gone missing or been found murdered over the past 20 years across Western Canada. Winnipeg - The government of Manitoba is trying to persuade a North Dakota court to stop a controversial water diversion project that it claims will spread pollution and foreign species into Canada. Final arguments in the Devils Lake outlet case were scheduled to be heard Monday at the state Supreme Court in the capital, Bismarck. To deal with the annual swelling of the lake, the state and federal governments have approved the construction of an outlet which will pump floodwater out of Devils Lake into the nearby Red River water system. But the river flows into Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg, among other bodies of water. Ottawa - Citizenship and Immigration Minister Joe Volpe announced a new $72-million plan aimed at helping immigrants reunite with relatives and clear a giant backlog of applicants. Part of the plan is designed to help those who want to sponsor their parents or grandparents, a process that immigration lawyers say can take between five and 10 years.
