Yellowknife - The Workers' Compensation Board of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut plans to implement this fall a sweeping ban on smoking in all workplaces. But unlike restrictions on workplace smoking in other jurisdictions, N.W.T. and Nunavut will not provide for separate, ventilated spaces in which workers or patrons can smoke. "Our concerns stem from the health of workers, particularly in the hospitality industry," said WCB chairman Andy Wong. "They're exposed to second-hand smoke and don't have any choice in the matter. Employers have the responsibility of providing a safe workplace." Toronto - With roughly 100 probable and confirmed cases so far, Saskatchewan has many more infections of West Nile virus than the rest of the country combined. Montreal - A few dozen sovereigntists rallied in front of the premier's office Saturday in a last-ditch effort to stop Dorval airport from being named after former prime minister Pierre Trudeau. "It would be a disgrace," said Gilles Rheaume, president of the Anti-PET Coalition. Sovereigntists were furious when Ottawa announced the name change last month. Trudeau's decision to implement the War Measures Act during the 1970 Quebec terrorist kidnapping crisis is one reason many sovereigntists don't want to see Trudeau's name on the province's major international airport.
