Ottawa - Televised talks on new health care funding took a back seat to closed-door negotiations Wednesday morning, with the premiers meeting privately to work out their next move. One of the main problems seems to be what the two sides should agree upon first. Martin, who emerged around noon to talk to reporters, said he'd like to see a framework on how to reduce waiting times and ensure accountability for Canadians with health problems, and then negotiate what funding should go along with that plan. Manitoba Premier Gary Doer said the main issue remains the amount of money the federal government is willing to ante up. Ottawa - Federal tax collectors from across the country walked off the job Wednesday, setting up picket lines in at least 55 cities. More than 25,000 federal tax workers began rotating strikes last week after the Canada Revenue Agency and representatives of the Public Service Alliance of Canada were unable to reach a deal. Money and job security is the main issue for the workers, who claim their wages are lower than those of their private sector counterparts. Quebec City - Quebec's Attorney General is pushing for changes to the Criminal Code to make it easier to collect the proceeds of crime. The request comes as Quebec Justice officials pursue millions of dollars from two convicted members of the Hells Angels.
