Ottawa - Two military vessels started to tow the HMCS Chicoutimi Thursday afternoon, racing to get the disabled sub and its crew to safety before the onset of more bad weather off the coast of Ireland. Skies cleared enough for a British Navy tug to hook the submarine with a cable and begin dragging it toward the Scottish military base it had left three days earlier. Rescuers are speeding to get the remaining crew of 54 back on land before more bad weather hits on the weekend. Officials wouldn't say when they expected the vessel to reach port. Ottawa - The Gomery Commission inquiry, which is investigating the millions of dollars spent by the federal government to promote federalism in Quebec, has been told that, as finance minister in the Chrétien government, Paul Martin would have known about the special fund created to support national unity projects. But deputy Finance Minister Kevin Lynch says there's nothing to prove Martin was involved in decisions allocating money from the fund to sponsorship programs. Regina - Saskatchewan health officials are putting more information about waiting times for surgeries on the Internet. The province's web-based registry for patients is the first of its kind in Canada. It allows a patient to go online and find out how long people are waiting for a particular procedure in each health region in Saskatchewan.
