Calgary - Restaurants in Western Canada are starting to feel the pinch from a massive poultry cull in British Columbia, as chicken supplies dwindle. Millions of kilograms of production will be lost in the coming weeks as 19 million chickens, turkeys and ducks are slaughtered to prevent the spread of avian flu in the Fraser Valley region, which normally supplies about 10 per cent of Canada's poultry. Ottawa - The federal government is imposing an outright ban on the import or sale of baby walkers, making Canada the first country to make the devices illegal. The ban also includes the resale of walkers at flea markets and garage sales. The devices are designed for babies who can sit up, but not walk on their own. Health Canada says the baby walkers can tip down stairs, or allow a child to reach dangerous items such as cooking pots. Montreal - The dreams of six million frequent flyers hang in the balance as Air Canada looks for new investors to keep it in the air. If the Montreal-based airline goes under, points collected through its Aeroplan frequent flyer program for free travel and other rewards could become worthless, analysts say. Officials at Aeroplan say there has been no rush by members to cash in their miles, even though the airline's future looks shaky after investor Victor Li pulled out his proposed $650 million in support late last week.
