Oshawa, Ont. - One of two teenaged Oshawa-area boys beaten, handcuffed and caged by their adoptive parents says a nine-month sentence for the abuse they suffered is not enough. Child welfare investigators rescued the boys, now aged 17 and 18, from their home in rural Blackstock, Ont., three years ago after receiving a tip from a relative. One boy was found in a cage that was strapped to a wall and padlocked. At times, the boys were tied to their beds and handcuffed. They were often beaten ? sometimes with a broom handle. Saint John - National sales of Lotto 6/49 dropped by one-third when the price of a ticket increased, but lottery officials say they're confident the slump will prove to be just a blip. Lotto 6/49 was introduced in June 1982, offering a chance to win millions for a buck a ticket. Millions of Canadians have accepted the offer, with more than 30 billion tickets sold. But on June 1, the interprovincial lottery commission raised the ante for 6/49, raising the price of a ticket to $2 and offering bigger prizes. Sales immediately plunged by a third. Crofton, B.C. - Rock musician Randy Bachman has enlisted some famous friends to perform in a benefit concert this September to raise money for an environmental health study near his home in British Columbia's Cowichan Valley. Bachman is helping organize a fundraising show called the Clean Air Concert to pay for the report. The lineup will include Toronto's Barenaked Ladies and veteran rocker Neil Young.
