Winnipeg - Striking Canadian National Railway workers in Winnipeg have started picketing in front of the homes of replacement workers. About 5,000 CN maintenance workers represented by the Canadian Auto Works have been walking picket lines across the country since Feb. 20. About 1,300 of them are in Winnipeg. CAW spokesman Doug Olshewski says 23 retired CN employees are crossing the picket lines in Winnipeg, and another seven replacement workers have been brought in from the United States. Hamilton, Ont - Canada's Minister of Transport Tony Valeri derailed the campaign hopes of longtime Hamilton MP Sheila Copps Saturday night, winning the right to run as the Liberal party's candidate in a redrawn local riding. Copps sat expressionless as her disappointed supporters slowly filed out of the building. Copps has been a Hamilton MP for the past 20 years, and served as deputy prime minister and heritage minister in Jean Chrtien's government. But she was dumped from cabinet when Paul Martin became Liberal leader. Ottawa - A small group of military personnel was scheduled to leave for Haiti on Sunday to prepare for the arrival of more than 400 Canadians soldiers. The "theatre activation team" is going to scout locations and decide where equipment and forces need to go.
