Montreal - A Montreal man who slipped his former girlfriend a drug that induced a miscarriage was sent to jail for a year on Tuesday. Gary Bourgeois, 46, pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault and administering a toxic substance. "Society cannot tolerate a male partner in a relationship unilaterally putting an end to a pregnancy," said Quebec court Judge Jean-Pierre Bonin. Happy Valley-Goose Bay - An 11-year-old boy who disappeared in the woods near Goose Bay, Labrador, last weekend was discovered safe by a police tracking dog Tuesday afternoon. Rescuers said Joseph Obed was cold and hungry and exhausted but otherwise in good condition. He was walking when rescuers found him. "He was pretty happy," RCMP Cpl. Craig Burnett said. "He didn't say a whole lot, but he had a big smile." Calgary - A six-month-old baby boy is in the custody of Child and Family Services in Calgary after he was found abandoned in a stroller blocks from his home early Tuesday morning. The mother has been charged with one count of causing a child to be in need of protective services. But police said they don't think the mother intended to abandon the child. The infant was found, dressed in sleepers and wrapped in a blanket, beside a residence in the southeast part of Calgary. Police do not know how long he had been left alone.
