Ottawa - A coalition of religious and family groups is calling on Canadians to take the protest against same-sex marriage to the doorsteps of their members of Parliament. The coalition launched a campaign Tuesday to defend the current definition of marriage by urging people to demonstrate next Sunday in front of the offices of at least 30 MPs who support gay and lesbian marriage. Charles McVety with Canada Christian College says the federal government "has no right" to change the definition of marriage - the union of one man and one woman which he calls "the cornerstone of civilization." Toronto - After several false starts, Ontario's Conservatives launched a highly anticipated provincial election Tuesday, sending voters to the polls Oct. 2 as they vie for a third-straight mandate after eight years of majority rule. Premier Ernie Eves, buoyed in recent weeks by his handling of the province's massive power blackout, will run on a right-wing platform that includes Canada's first tax deduction on mortgages and a ban on teacher strikes during the school year. Ottawa - Lack of money for retirement worries many Canadians, a Statistics Canada survey indicates. About one-third of people aged 45 to 59 don't think they have set enough aside to maintain their standard of living in retirement, the agency reported Tuesday.
