Regina - Members of Saskatchewan's Official Opposition headed into a caucus meeting Wednesday amid expectation their leader would quit after two failed attempts to win an election. Elwin Hermanson has led the right-of-centre Saskatchewan Party in the last two provincial elections - the most recent on Nov. 5. Many observers predicted the party would win, but the New Democrats pulled out a narrow victory. Vancouver - The most important witness in the Air India trial told court Tuesday that outsiders could never understand her love for an accused terrorist, a love that compelled her to protect him even after she said he confessed to being involved in one of the world's worst mass murders. Kleinburg, Ont. - Robert McMichael, the co-founder of the McMichael Gallery of Canadian art, has died at 82, the gallery announced Wednesday. The gallery in this community 30 kilometres north of Toronto was founded by McMichael and his wife Signe, who began to collect paintings of the Group of Seven and their contemporaries in 1955. In 1965, they donated their home, 40-hectare property and collection of 194 works of art to the province of Ontario. The gallery now has one of the largest collections of art by Tom Thomson, the Group and their contemporaries anywhere.
