Whitehorse - The Yukon territorial government has taken over administrative control of Dawson City after firing its elected council. The decision to fire the council, consisting of the mayor and six councillors, comes after it was revealed the city faces a $1.4 million cash shortfall, higher than previously predicted. The city also faces $4.4 million in long-term debt after several infrastructure projects. The territorial government has been overseeing the community's books for several years. But Community Services Minister Glenn Hart said the elected council has shown it's not willing to accept the financial plan laid out for it. Montreal - For the first time in a Canadian court, a data recorder in a car was used to convict a man in Montreal of dangerous driving causing death. The data recorder, also known as a black box, records the last few seconds of driving before a car's air bag deploys. In an accident in 2001 in Montreal, the black box in 20-year old Eric Gauthier's car proved that he was driving 131 km/h in a 50 km/h zone when his vehicle hit Yacine Zinet's car, killing him and injuring a passenger.
