Montreal - The search for a Quebec hiker who disappeared in the Peruvian Andes three weeks ago has been called off. Nicolas Royer's family told two volunteer search-and-rescue teams on Monday to stop scouring the mountains for the 22-year-old, who went missing on Nov. 27. Nicolas Royer vanished after leaving his 5,000-metre-altitude camp on Peru's Mount Pariacaca. "I don't want anyone to put their life in danger, especially now that everything humanely possible has been done," Royer's father, Christian, told a television station. Cavendish, P.E.I. - A Prince Edward Island couple has won approval to open a nudist campground at the province's only naturalist resort. The campground will open in Cavendish, the home of fictional heroine Anne of Green Gables and one of the Island's most popular tourist destinations. Cavendish Resort Municipality approved the plan on Monday night, despite heated opposition from some local residents who said that it would tarnish the region's allure as a family tourism destination. St. John's, Nfld. - Natural Resources Minister John Efford said Tuesday that he may decide to resign his post rather than vote in favour of same-sex marriage when legislation is introduced in the new year. Prime Minister Paul Martin has made it clear that cabinet members will be expected to vote with the government on the issue.
