Montreal - A man who showed up at a clinic with the ends of his fingers blown off prompted a police search Sunday for homemade bombs in east Montreal. The 25-year-old was injured while he and a 24-year-old friend played with the devices in a field on Sunday afternoon. Police roped off the area where they believed four to five unexploded bombs remained. No bombs were found in a search of the man's truck. Edmonton - After months of recruiting, Alberta's new Integrated Response to Organized Crime (IROC) unit is preparing to dig into organized crime groups across the province. Insp. Joe Loran, the man in charge of the elite group of officers from the RCMP and the Calgary and Edmonton police services, says they will have their work cut out for them. "We will be dedicated to dismantling and disrupting organized crime," says Loran, a taciturn 25-year RCMP veteran. Edmonton - Never mind that it was -16 C for Saturday's matchup between the megastars - the former Edmonton Oiler greats and the alumni of the legendary Montreal Canadiens. And never mind that the mercury plunged even further, to a punishing -20 C during the contest between the Oilers and Canadiens in the first-ever NHL game played outdoors. Nearly 58,000 bundled-up, hockey-obsessed fans packed the Commonwealth Stadium to watch the doubleheader.
