Vancouver - A Canadian swimmer says he was beaten by Greek police while in Athens for the Olympics. It's the first time British Columbia native Brent Hayden, the Canadian 100-metre freestyle record holder, has publicly told his story. Hayden says he and a group of other Canadian athletes had been out at an Athens club. When he left the club at about 3 a.m., he says he encountered people throwing bottles at riot police. He turned and ran back into the bar, he said, but was followed inside by police. "They actually chased me inside the club, grabbed me by the back of the shirt and dragged me out into the street where I was thrown onto the ground, completely surrounded and beaten with their riot clubs," said Hayden. Ottawa - Navy officials believe it will take at least six months or more to repair the fire damage aboard HMCS Chicoutimi. Repairs won't begin until the navy finishes its inquiry and issues a report on the Oct. 5 fire that led to the death of one sailor. HMCS Chicoutimi was one of four mothballed British submarines bought by the Canadian government. Vancouver - Investigators hope fingerprints will show if a man found dead after a shootout in Chechnya is Rudwan Khalil Abubaker, a Vancouver man missing since August. Russian special forces say the body was among a group of Chechen rebels killed this month in a shootout.
