Maple Ridge, B.C. - A 12-month-old girl got caught in the line of fire in a domestic dispute early Wednesday. The girl was taken to Vancouver Children's Hospital with a gunshot wound. Police and ambulance paramedics were called after a report of a shooting in a home. Ridge Meadows RCMP Const. Kelly Katalinic said they found the little girl with a gunshot wound. "It's not believed the baby was the intended victim," she said. "The baby has been taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries." ÊOttawa - The government will appoint an independent adviser to determine if there should be a public inquiry into the Air India bombings. Public Safety Minister Anne McLellan, who has so far resisted calls for a public inquiry, announced the move Thursday in the Commons. Toronto - Canada's Bank of Nova Scotia is seeking more than $600 million in damages from the Argentine government, blaming actions by authorities in the Latin American country for the total loss of the bank's investment in its subsidiary, Scotiabank Quilmes. The bank, Canada's third-largest bank by assets, said on Thursday it wants compensation for the loss of its Argentine investment, the costs of winding-up Quilmes and for the harm to its reputation. It is the first time the bank has made a claim of this nature.
