Ottawa - Leading members from all political parties put aside their partisan differences Thursday to pay tribute to former prime minister and former Progressive Conservative Leader Joe Clark. Clark, who is retiring from politics, spent his last day Thursday in the House of Commons. MPs praised Clark for leading the fight to end apartheid in South Africa when he was foreign minister in Brian Mulroney's government. He was also commended for his work on constitutional matters and for his support of womens rights. NDP Parliamentary House Leader Bill Blaikie said Clark was championing equality of women "before it was popular to do so." Halifax - The government of Nova Scotia has introduced legislation which would force oil companies to give advance notice of gasoline price increases. The province hopes to have the measure in place by June 1. Ottawa - Former defence minister Art Eggleton has confirmed he won't seek re-election in his Toronto riding amid reports that former NHL star Ken Dryden will be introduced as the new candidate. Eggleton denied that he was asked to step aside to make way for Dryden, who is currently president of the Toronto Maple Leafs. According to the National Post, Prime Minister Paul Martin will appoint Dryden, a six-time Stanley Cup winner with the Montreal Canadiens, as the candidate in York Centre.
