Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. - Conservative Leader Stephen Harper challenged Liberal claims to be the defenders of health care, saying Paul Martin spent the past 10 years taking money out of it. Harper was back on the campaign trail on Tuesday after taking a day off. He will spend the next three days in Ontario, the province that holds more than one-third of the country's federal seats. Martin has narrowed his campaign focus to health care, saying Conservative spending promises and tax cuts will gut social programs. St. John's - Newfoundland and Labrador's Conservative premier waded into the health-care debate on Tuesday, saying Alberta Premier Ralph Klein owes Canadians an explanation of his proposed reforms to health-care. Klein has said he plans to unveil health-care reforms that include private-sector options two days after the June 28 federal election. Newfoundland Premier Danny Williams says more more information from Klein could clear up confusion created by the announcement Parry Sound, Ont. - Archbishop Edward Scott, the former primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, was killed in a car accident in central Ontario on Monday. He was 85. Scott, who led the Anglican Church from 1971 to 1986, was considered a progressive thinker on many issues. He supported the recognition of same-sex relationships in church.
