St. John's, Nfld. - Prostitutes should belong to unions and enjoy the same benefits as any other workers, says a major Newfoundland labour leader. Wayne Lucas, provincial president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, urged the change to a St. John's radio program on the weekend. "Work is work," Lucas told VOCM Niteline. "These are working people." He said the union doesn't want to profit from prostitution, but wants to make things better for the workers. Prostitutes should have access to benefits such as health care and pensions, he said. Brandon, Man - A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for the son of two retired Manitoba doctors who were found dead in their Brandon home on the weekend. Police say more than a dozen leads have come in on the whereabouts of 39-year-old Paul Laurent Joubert. The bodies of his parents Noel Joubert, 81, and Doreen Joubert, 80, were found in their home on Saturday. Police say the couple were killed several days before their bodies were found. Toronto - A malfunctioning ride at the Canadian National Exhibition came to an abrupt stop Monday evening, sending 24 people to hospital and leaving some in neck braces. The G-force, which spins and turns people upside down, came to a halt in mid-air on the last day of the annual exhibition in Toronto. Ladders were used to help people from the midway ride, and many were placed on stretchers.
