Ottawa - Transport Minister Jean Lapierre is playing down concerns about the disappearance of more than 1,000 pieces of uniforms and security badges worn by airport screeners in secure areas. "This is not a security issue," he said outside the House of Commons Monday, reacting to a CBC report about the missing equipment that has been making waves in Canada and the U.S. since last Friday. Earlier Monday, the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority released a report confirming that 1,127 uniform pieces had been lost or stolen in the past year, including 639 name tags bearing the first name of the screening officer and a number of badges, shirts, belts, sweaters, clip-on ties, pants and shoes. The report also said 226 of those missing items bear the logo of the air security agency, including 91 shields and 78 shirts. Vancouver - A Vancouver-based firm won't sell 1.2 million doses of influenza vaccine to the United States after all, announcing Tuesday that it will sell the doses within Canada instead. Montreal - The family of a Quebec man missing in the mountains of Peru has flown their own team of searchers to South America, saying they're not getting any help from the federal government. Nicolas Royer, 22, went missing on Nov. 27 after leaving his camp on Mount Pariacaca, about 150 kilometres south of Lima. They believe Nicolas is in excellent health and can survive for about two weeks.
