Ottawa - Prime Minister Paul Martin tried Thursday to dismiss fresh efforts to tie him to the sponsorship scandal, saying he doesn't recall ever having lunch with a key player in the affair. But his denials of dining with Claude Boulay, head of Liberal-friendly ad firm Groupe Everest, appeared less than convincing. Martin, who ducked Opposition questions about the matter Wednesday in the House of Commons, told reporters Thursday that he never had lunch with Boulay - to discuss contracts. Pressed by reporters, he then said he never had lunch with Boulay after forming government. Gambier Island, B.C. - A three-year-old boy who was sitting in a truck that rolled into the water off a Gambier Island dock has died, the RCMP said Thursday. The boy's desperate father struggled frantically to rescue his son Quinlan on Wednesday afternoon after the truck went into the water, said local resident Bob Switzer, who witnessed the incident. Ottawa - MP Pat O'Brien announced yesterday that he will stay with the Liberal party after receiving assurances from Prime Minister Paul Martin that public hearings will be held on the government's controversial same-sex marriage legislation.
