Montreal - A judicial recount that wrapped up Tuesday night confirmed Social Development Minister Liza Frulla's victory in a Montreal riding in the June 28 election. The recount showed Frulla defeated her nearest rival by 72 votes, not 464 votes as initial election night counting suggested. The recount result means the Liberals retain their total of 135 seats in the next Parliament, compared to 99 for the Conservatives, 54 for the BQ, 19 for the NDP and one for non-affiliated candidate Chuck Cadman in British Columbia. Other recounts could change those numbers in the days ahead, however. Toronto - Facing a growing demand for electricity, the Ontario government announced on Tuesday it will invest nearly $1 billion to restart a second reactor at the Pickering nuclear station east of Toronto. "We are facing a looming electricity supply gap and must leverage power that is most readily available to us," Ontario Energy Minister Dwight Duncan said. "The restart of this Pickering unit will deliver enough affordable electricity to power 350,000 Ontario homes." Halifax - Nine people are in custody Tuesday after more than 500 kilograms of cocaine was discovered in a sailboat off the coast of Nova Scotia. The cocaine, which police say was coming to Canada from South America, had a street value of about $16 million.
