Manassas, Va.. - A U.S. judge sentenced John Allen Muhammad to death on Tuesday for his role in a series of sniper attacks that killed 10 people in Washington, D.C., in October 2002. Circuit Judge LeRoy Millette followed a jury's recommendation in November that Muhammad be executed after being found guilty of two counts of capital murder in the death of Dean Meyers. The 43-year-old Muhammad was also found guilty of terrorism and illegal possession of weapons Millette ordered Muhammad to be executed on Oct. 14. But appeals will likely postpone the date. Seoul - South Korea's president faces a motion of impeachment in the National Assembly following comments he made violating the country's election laws. An impeachment motion against a South Korean president has never been passed by the National Assembly. London - The British government will allow genetically modified corn to be grown under tightly controlled conditions, Environment Secretary Margaret Beckett said Tuesday. The corn that results will only be used as animal feed. Tuesday's announcement follows three years of trials in the United Kingdom, where growing genetically modified food for commercial use is currently banned. The decision was expected to generate controversy.
