Quebec - Quebec will review work guidelines for health professionals to ensure thousands of future patients aren't forced to get HIV tests because their doctor had contracted the disease, Premier Jean Charest said Sunday. "We must re-evaluate how it's done and we will do that," he said during a news conference. "We will have to review the work methods of (health) people who are at risk, to protect the health of patients." The statement came a few days after Ste-Justine Hospital appealed for the testing of 2,614 patients who were operated on by an HIV-positive surgeon between 1990 and 2003. Petawawa, Ontario - There were tears of joy and long-awaited embraces as a few lucky soldiers returned to their home base Saturday after a six-month deployment to Afghanistan. A few hours earlier when their plane landed at Canadian Forces Base Trenton, the 105 soldiers were greeted briefly by Defence Minister David Pratt and Gen. Ray Henault, Canada's chief of defence staff, before eagerly boarding buses for home. It was the first major flight of Canadian soldiers returning from duties in Afghanistan. Winnipeg - Sprucing up their homes could save Winnipeggers money on their property tax bills. The home renovation tax program will likely go ahead for 2004. It's available for people whose homes are valued at under $90,000 and built before 1974.
