Toronto - Ontario will move quickly to end mandatory retirement at age 65, Labour Minister Chris Bentley said on Wednesday as he announced a series of public hearings on the issue. "We are determined to end the practice of mandatory retirement without undermining existing rights to retire, to retire early, or undermining current pension plans," Bentley told a news conference in Toronto. "Ontarians are healthier and living longer so it is unfair to insist that they stop working simply because they reach age 65." Mandatory retirement is considered discriminatory under legislation in place in Quebec, Alberta, Manitoba and Prince Edward Island.
