Rising casualties has meant rising opposition to Canada's mission in Afghanistan, a new poll suggests. A poll by the Strategic Counsel for The Globe and Mail and CTV showed a 55 per cent majority now oppose a troop presence. Less than four in 10 respondents Ð 37 per cent Ð support the mission, while eight per cent don't know. Opposition is strongest in Quebec with 75 per cent against the mission and 21 per cent in favour. Yet even when Quebec is taken out of the equation, 49 per cent are opposed while 42 per cent are in favour. The poll involved 1,000 participants nationally and was conducted last Thursday through to Sunday. Parliament has already voted to keep troops in Afghanistan until 2009.
