Pastor Brian Gold Flin Flon Pentecostal Church We see our world in a real upheaval on many fronts. We've just experienced the ominous attacks of killer hurricanes, wreaking havoc on the Caribbean and the southern United States. We continue to read of terrorist attacks in many diverse places. We hear of the pandemic of AIDS in Africa. More closer to home, there are the closed borders for live cattle, West Nile virus scares, agricultural problems related to the very cool and wet weather we've had this past summer. When or where does it end? Despite all the instability that characterizes our world, God relays answers for us from His holy book, the Bible. A great chapter in Psalms gives us this promise: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea..." (Ps. 46) It is great to know that God is with us always when we put our faith in Him and learn to trust Him. How many times do we want to do our own thing, only to experience some high cost? When will we realize that God is with us at all times, through the day and night. Nothing takes God by surprise. In face, I think that He wishes to relay a few more details to us if we'd only listen to His still small voice. Evil is ever-present but when God is our refuge, we can sleep at night. We don't have to worry about tomorrow since God is looking after us - what a blissful thought! Jesus taught that His sheep hear His voice and they follow Him. The truth is that those who spend time in God's presence learn to distinguish His voice from all the other voices that call out. We see the Holy Spirit talking to the disciples in the book of Acts continually. If you look at Acts 10:5, 6; 10:19, 20; 9:11, 12; 27:22-24, you understand that God's voice is very discernible and He desires to let us know that He is ever-present with us too. The Scriptures in the Old and New Testaments clearly remind us that God spoke with people in the past and He still desires to come close to us too. Psalm 46:7 again reminds us that "the Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress." What good news in a world that is in upheaval and ever unstable. May we put our faith in God, and know that He wants to talk with us today.
