The Shepherd's Advice Pastor Lorne Moorhead Northern Fellowship Chapel What would the people who were involved with the birth of Jesus Christ have to say to us today? Listen to the shepherds who were told by angels about Jesus' birth. "We are very common people and not a very impressive group. Most people look down on us just because our job doesn't pay much and because we aren't educated, and as well have a reputation for being liars and thieves. But in spite of our reputation, you must believe us when we tell you that the child Jesus is exactly who the scriptures say he is. Everything written about him is true. We were on the hillside just outside the town of Bethlehem taking care of our sheep at night when an angel appeared out of nowhere. Yes, an actual angel. His appearance terrified us at first, then he calmed us down. He said our Saviour had been born. He told us who this Saviour was, where he was born and what he was wearing, right down to the last detail. Now we had to decide, would we go into the town to check this out or would be ignore it and pretend it hadn't happened? We went! It turned out exactly as the angel had said. There was a new baby, he was in Bethlehem, he was wrapped in cloths and he was lying in a manger. One thing we learned on that night is that God does not mislead people. The Gospel writer records our experience in these beautiful words, "All the things they had heard and seen - were just as they had been told." (Luke 2:20) The Scriptures are exact and reliable and give a true picture of Jesus Christ. If you seek Jesus, as we shepherds did, you will find Him. That is exactly what the Bible says to do." 12/24/2004
