Faith, Hope and Love in an Uncertain World Pastor Brian Gold Flin Flon Pentecostal Assembly Today we look at what are called the theological virtues, namely faith, hope and love. Faith is putting your trust in something or Someone that you know to be true. Any example of faith is hitting a switch and expecting electricity to power the lights or fan. We believe something will happen, mostly because of previous experience. The same is with God. We come with our joys and problems and we expect Him to hear us and respond to us. Hebrews 11 reminds us that the person who comes to God must believe that God exists and that God rewards those who diligently seek Him. Do you have the switch of faith turned on to God today? Hope is an expecting of something to occur in the future. We find ourselves talking about hope quite often. I hope she remembers... I hope I can make it to the event... The hope for the Christian is that Christ has guaranteed the future, in a place called heaven. We hope that one day, soon to arrive, that Jesus Christ will say, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." The last theological virtue is love. It is also the greatest. Why is this? I believe that faith and hope will end when we get to heaven; all things are fulfilled and there is no longer a need to have faith or hope. However, heaven includes love, as the Bible reminds us that God is love. Therefore, love will be what heaven is all about, as we rule with Jesus Christ and worship Him. There is no end to love. Love is a choice, even an action. It always remains, even when it does not seem as though there is any love around. We saw love in action two years ago when communities rallied together to look after airliners that unexpectedly arrived in their airports. Places such as Gander and Halifax. Such an outpouring of love helped to accommodate the 1000s of displaced passengers, in spite of traumatic events elsewhere. Love in action. This same love also took God's Son, Jesus Christ, to a cross for you and me. One song writer put it this way: "Such love, such wondrous love, that God should love a sinner such as I, how wonderful is love like this." Faith, hope and love: the way to live successfully!12/9/03
