Pastor Richard Zimmerman First United Lutheran Church Ask yourself which of these two is more important: relationships or things. Whether you're young or old, look back over your life. Which has brought greater joy, greater peace to you? People or toys? If you set out to find real, lasting treasure, where would you look? It turns out that the best things in life can't be bought with a credit card after all. It's great to have our three "big box" stores here in Flin Flon, but have you noticed what you can't buy there? No flyer advertises peace, hope, love, forgiveness as sale items. Yet, when you think about it, these gifts of God are what make life special and meaningful. Relationships are always more important than things! Pride, greed and power really don't make people happy. Actually, they end up making us miserable, whether we admit it or not. I'm sad to see homes fully loaded with all the latest trinkets and gadgets, all the creature comforts but "running on empty" when it comes to caring and sharing relationships, homes where husband and wife and children are all so busy going their separate ways that they hardly ever sit down in their $25,000 kitchen to have a meal together. If people are more important than things, then I also believe that giving is better than getting. Just look at how much God wants to give us! This Lenten season reminds us that He sent His Son with forgiveness and eternal life for each and every person who has faith in this Jesus. Look at the Saviour's life. Here is a "man for others," who always helps, always loves, always has time, always cares! He wants you to have the peace and new life He won for you on His cross of suffering and at His empty tomb of victory. Relationships are always more important than things. And the most important relationship of all is your faith in your Lord and Saviour! Entrust your life to Him today!8/3/04
