Question: Thank you for your honest answer to the question about water meters. Since the requirement of water meters "may be a moot point" now, and since the purpose of getting meters (determining the size of the water treatment plant we need) is irrelevant now that you are building the treatment plant first, is council prepared to once and for all cancel the water meter project? If not, what is the reason? Mayor Therien: First let me say there is no water meter project. Council only agreed, in principle, to the need to have meters and nothing more. I personally agree that meters may not be necessary anymore, but that is only my thought on this subject. Would I suggest that council would scrap this idea in its entirety, that is not for me to say individually. Saying that we would never bring in meters would possibly be shortsighted and, of course, never is a long period of time. * * * Question: The parking lot across from the Community Hall is in a deplorable condition. Why has it not been refurbished? There's a big hole that's been there since the other half of the parking lot was taken away. Mayor Therien: I do not use this parking lot all that often, so thank you for bringing it to my attention. I drove through it after I received the question and I agree with you that something needs to be done to bring it up to speed. The hole you refer to will be filled shortly with recycled asphalt. I would never say never in terms of this parking lot being paved but, for now, it is not even on our list of streets, etc., that we do need to repair. * * * Question: I am curious to know more about you as a person. What are your favourite movies, TV shows, types of music, hobbies and sports teams? Mayor Therien: Favourite movies: any of The Godfather trilogy, any animated movie, anything with suspense. Favourite TV shows: any Law and Order, Cold Case, any CSI, Without a Trace, Amazing Race, Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men (having PVR is great). Music: older rock such as Genesis, Pink Floyd, Chris DeBerg. Hobbies: I play for the Flin Flon Old Time Bombers Hockey Club (goal). I do not get out as much I might like, but I do not think my body will allow me to play more, anyway. I am a member of the Kinsmen Club and a director with Community Futures Greenstone, but my best pastime is being with my grandchildren. I like to read as well. Sports teams: Without a question, the Flin Flon Jr. Bombers. In the NHL, I was a diehard Winnipeg Jet fan but I have not followed them since they left for Phoenix, so I cheer for the Montreal Canadiens now. I still like the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, which makes things interesting in our household as Diane likes the Riders. I have always been a Minnesota Vikings fan in the NFL, and I follow the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Raptors as well. * * * Send your questions for Mayor Therien to The Reminder by phone at 687-3454, fax at 687-4473, e-mail at [email protected] or standard delivery at "Ask the Mayor", C/O The Reminder, 14 North Avenue, Flin Flon, R8A 0T2.
