Once again, the early sunsets and chilly mornings of December are accompanied by the warmth and light of the Christmas season. Family and friends gather to share joy and glad tidings. People reach out to strangers, to those less fortunate, across the street or across the planet. In deepest winter, we come together to celebrate and to look toward to a brighter tomorrow. In the Christmas tradition, the hope of a brighter tomorrow is embodied in a child. Regardless of our individual religious heritage, we can express our hopes and wishes for children and the future at this time of year. Through Winnipeg Harvest, the Christmas Cheer Board, through the charitable work of UNICEF or the Mennonite Central Committee, and other activities across the province, we can share our love and good fortune with children near and far. Manitoba is a province of many peoples, with many cultural and religious traditions, but for all of us a message of hope, joy, peace and goodwill is timely. My wife Shirley and I extend our warm wishes for a joyous holiday season surrounded by family, friends and loved ones.
