Kiev, Ukraine - Ukraine's Central Elections Commission has announced Viktor Yanukovych as the official winner of the presidential election, even though two of its 13 members urged their colleagues not to sign the final document. Yanukovych got 49.46 percent of Sunday's vote while his challenger, Viktor Yushchenko, garnered 46.61 percent, the commission said in giving its final results. Western-funded exit polls of thousands of voters had shown Yushchenko leading by a comfortable margin. Massive street protests in Kiev in support of Yushchenko continued into its third day despite cold temperatures and snowfall. Washington - A cow that had raised fears of a second case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy in the United States has tested negative for the disease, U.S. Agriculture Department officials said Tuesday. Versailles, France - General Electric workers in France are suing their employer because they are expected to work in English too much. The workers from GE Healthcare, a branch of the multinational giant that makes medical equipment, complain that company e-mails and manuals are usually written in English. They also say English dominates as the language used in meetings. Their court action began Tuesday, appealing to a 10-year-old French law that discourages the use of English in business, advertising and broadcasting.
