Baghdad - Bowing to demands from insurgents threatening to kill a Filipino hostage, the Philippines completed the withdrawal of its troops from Iraq on Monday. The Philippines had 51 soldiers stationed in Iraq as part of the U.S.-led coalition. Earlier this month, an Iraqi militant group kidnapped Angelo de la Cruz and threatened to cut off his head if the Philippines troops weren't removed. The United States and Australia have both criticized the Philippines decision to leave Iraq. Ramallah, West Bank - After a week of dissent capped by the burning of his Palestinian Authority offices in southern Gaza, Yasser Arafat removed his cousin from his new job as security chief on Monday. The appointment of Arafat's cousin had sparked cries of nepotism and corruption. London - London's police force launched an internal inquiry Monday after a driver found a file lying on a road that detailed plans for thwarting terrorist attacks at Heathrow Airport. The plans were dated June 26, 2004, an article in the Sun daily newspaper reported. They showed 62 locations at Britain's busiest airport that were seen as likely launch sites for al-Qaeda operatives armed with anti-aircraft missiles. They also showed where police dog units and rooftop sniper stations could be located, and gave the times of police patrols at the airport.
