Honouring Women Women make vital and significant contributions in every area of society. There are many, many women whose contributions, successes and achievements encourage and inspire us - a number of who have been honoured through a range of awards and honours programs. However, more men than women receive formal recognition for their accomplishments, achievements and successes. The reason for this is that traditionally, far fewer women are nominated for awards and honours than men. The first step in changing this pattern is an easy one - nominate more women! While many women may not seek or expect recognition for their efforts, it is really important that as a community we pay tribute to inspiring women by publicly acknowledging their remarkable achievements. There is now a range of awards programs at the national, state and local levels aimed at acknowledging these outstanding efforts and honouring our significant achievers. Don't put it off - send it off! Look around your community, your network, your profession - and take the time to nominate a woman you find inspiring. By honouring women, we are showing our gratitude, saying thank you and formally recognizing remarkable achievement.
