I recently bid on and won the movie Youngblood on eBay. I had the craving to watch it and thought instead of renting it, I could find and own it for the same price. Minus the shipping and handling, it cost me $6. I watched and enjoyed it, but, I've come to the conclusion that it's not my favourite hockey flick. Mystery, Alaska gets that prestigious honour and yes, I know about the reference to Flin Flon. While people might think that's cool, try this on for size. One of the actors dated my ex-girlfriend a few years before I met her. The only answer I can give to liking Mystery, Alaska more than Youngblood is the storyline which brings out the passion for the game. If I had to rate all the hockey movies I've seen, Slap Shot would follow Mystery, Alaska, followed by Youngblood, and finally Miracle. Hockey Pool In last week's column I discussed hockey pools and some of the players I selected for the pool I'm in. I feel bad because I reversed the name of Tampa Bay Lightning rookie Ryan Craig. The question I have is, did you notice? (If you did, it's because you're a Lightning fan anyway.) He has yet to get me a point. My prize pick, Jay Pandolfo, from the New Jersey Devils collected two short-handed helpers as the Devils beat up on the Rangers. I hate to admit it, but I'm not feeling like much of an expert when I'm sitting four from the bottom with 29 points as of Thursday. Fortunately, I'm only six behind first place and I have three players with donuts next to their names. Telus Cup With help of the Creighton Connection, of Steven Robinson and Ryan Fox, the Prince Albert Mintos are getting closer to playing in the championship game of the Telus Cup (the national championship for midget AAA) in Charlottetown, P.E.I, as they are 3-0. In the first game the Mintos defeated the Calgary Buffaloes 7-2, then the Patriotes De Chateauguay fell victim 5-0. In the third game, the Mintos were trailing 3-2 and won 6-3. Their toughest challenger could be the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, who are also undefeated. Both teams face each other in their final game before semifinal action begins If Steven and Ryan can help the Mintos be successful in winning the Telus Cup, that experience could bode well in their hockey careers, depending on how far they are able to go.
