Do you hear the wondering gratitude that laces the widow's tearful recollections? Do you hear the longing for reconciliation in the wandering brother's voice? Do you hear the outrage that challenges the indignities inflicted by people, one upon the other? Do you hear the tenderness with which the old man compliments his darling long-since bride? Do you hear the eagerly asked question on the lips of the wide-eyed child: "Do you really like it?" Do you hear the soulful yearning in heartfelt prayers for peace? Do you hear desperation crying loudly: "Please, God, I don't want to win any more." Do you hear the growing chorus demanding just ways in a sorely distorted world? Do you hear the sincere good wishes earnestly offered by total strangers? Do you hear the mother singing as she settles to sleep her infant child, who is happily cooing, safe and well-fed? These are the sounds of angels bending near the earth. They spring forth from harps of gold. They are Mary's Magnificat. They are intimations of Christmas - wherever and whenever they are found. I am come, says the Christ, that you may have life - and have it abundantly. We at Northminster Memorial United Church wish you a blessed Christmas and abundance in living all the year long.
