The celebration of Easter is the celebration of the triumph of life over death. It's celebrated all over the world as a day when Jesus rose from dead after three days. Jesus Christ, the son of God, came to this world, lived among us and sacrificed his life on cross, freed us from our sins and gained us back the lost kingdom of heaven. Jesus started his public life at the age 30 years. He preached the kingdom of God and he had many followers. But the Romans hated him and waited for an opportunity to end his life. Jesus was taken to a place called "Golgotha", which means "The Place of the Skull". It was nine o'clock in the morning when they crucified him, along with two other criminals Ð one on his right and another on his left. At twelve o'clock, the sun stopped shining, the whole country was covered with darkness and the curtain hanging in the Temple was torn in two. (Luke 23:44-46) At three o'clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Father! In your hands I place my spirit!". Jesus was wrapped in a linen sheet, according to Jewish custom of burial and placed in a tomb. Then a large stone was rolled across the entrance. On Sunday Morning, some women went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been taken away from the entrance. The linen wrappings and the cloth which had been round Jesus' head were lying there. This day is celebrated as Easter. One of the women named Mary Magdalene was standing at the tomb crying when two angels dressed in white appeared to her and with them was Jesus. He rose from the death on the third day as said by the prophets. Later he appeared to his disciples. He told his disciples that in his name the message about repentance and the forgiveness of sins must be preached to all nations. Jesus lifted up his hands and blessed them. And as he blessed them, he withdrew, he ascended into heaven and sat at the right hand of the God- The Father. The disciples went and preached everywhere and performed miracles in the name of Jesus and thus spread Christianity. And we believe that Jesus will come again to judge the living and the dead.8/4/04
