Question: What is our city council doing to ensure a more competitive business climate in Flin Flon? Mayor Therien: I will be honest with you; I really do not know what you are suggesting with this question. I believe council projects Flin Flon as "open for business" but it is up to the individuals involved as to whether a business opens or closes in Flin Flon or anywhere else for that matter. As for a more competitive business climate, other than treating all businesses alike re: taxation, I would be hard pressed to see where council has any control in this matter. If you are looking for more of an answer, please ask a different, more pointed question. * * * Question: As a citizen who regularly walks on the boardwalk at night, I find the light along the middle section of the main trail, near the railroad tracks, to be very annoying because it is so bright that it is like looking into the sun. There is no more boardwalk there to vandalize, so will the city remove this light? Mayor Therien: If I understand it correctly, the Flinty Committee is actually looking at adding more lighting for the convenience and safety of our users of the walk. Vandalism probably initiated the addition of the lighting, but I do not believe it was the sole reason for adding it. All in all though, the boardwalk has been a great addition to our community and I am really proud of the fact that the vandals did not get the better of the Flinty Committee as they continue to introduce additions and improvements to this great asset. I will pass on your concern to the committee about the lighting. * * * Send your questions for Mayor Therien to The Reminder by phone at 687-3454, fax at 687-4473, e-mail at [email protected] or standard delivery at "Ask the Mayor", C/O The Reminder, 14 North Avenue, Flin Flon, MB, R8A 0T2.
