The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is on a record setting pace to break Play-Off Attendance Records. The record of 71,852 established in the 1990-2000 season is sure to fall as the Battleford North Stars and Yorkton Terriers prepare to battle for the Credential Cup. To date 65,000 fans have taken in a SJHL Play-Off game compared to 48,500 for all of last years Play-Offs. This follows a record setting average attendance of 872 per game for the 2004-05 Regular season. Almost one in every ten people who live within the communities that have a Junior 'A' hockey team in Saskatchewan have watched a game this year. The total population of all twelve clubs is 99 242, which works out to an average population base of 8 270 per community. Therefore, 9.48 per cent of all people who live within the population target of their respective team attended a game this year. According to figures released by the Canadian Junior 'A' Hockey League, the SJHL averaged 872 fans per game during the 2004-05 regular season. This represents an increase from 833 in 2003-04. Per capita, no other Junior 'A' league could boost such a high comparative turn out rate. The Notre Dame Hounds, who draw mainly from their school for attendance, attracted a league high 68 per cent of the possible population. Melville was next at just over 16 per cent.ÊHumboldt ranked third at 15.54 per cent and the Flin Flon Bombers drew 15.39 per cent of the city's population to a home game on an average night. The most densely populated cities in the SJHL are Battlefords (19,765), Yorkton (17,032), Estevan (10,960), and Weyburn (10,170). The Bombers (1,273) had the highest average attendance this season.ÊThey were followed by Yorkton (1,218) and Battlefords (1,021). The BCHL had the single highest average attendance at 1,347 per game, but also have two cities (Surrey and Coquitlam) that have a population of well over 100,000 people. Victoria, Nanaimo, and Prince George also have population bases over 70,000. The AJHL ranked third in overall average single game attendance with 799.ÊThe Maritime Junior Hockey League averaged 742. Rounding out the rest of the CJAHL is the NOJHL at 523, CJHL with 521, LHJAAAQ with 504, MJHL at 496, and OPJHL at 279.
